A buyer may be able to own a home without personally meeting the age requirement, but occupancy must comply with the community’s current rules. Generally, at least one qualifying resident must be 55 or older, and all other occupants must meet the association’s requirements. Buyers should review the current governing documents for specific ownership, occupancy, leasing and guest restrictions before purchasing.
